What should we bring for the activity?
Not much, really — just bring your swimwear, a towel, sunscreen, and your sunglasses.
In spring, shoes for the activity are provided.
In summer, I won’t hide it — you’ll probably feel quite warm in them. If you have an old pair of trainers or want to try out your water shoes, the Ubaye is a great testing ground!
Oh, and one more thing — a glasses strap can be useful… unless I manage to get some delivered before then 🙂
What is the minimum age for children to go rafting on the Ubaye?
French regulations require that participants — or a legal guardian for minors — confirm they are able to swim at least 25 metres and submerge themselves in the water.
In summer, I sometimes take children as young as 6 when accompanied by their parents. More commonly, kids are between 8 and 10 years old — and they usually have huge smiles all the way down the river!
I’d say the most important thing is that your child genuinely wants to take part. It’s always better not to force them.
As for me, I only really started to love the water when I was around 11… so everyone has their own timing 🙂
Do you speak English?
Yes, I speak English fluently — with the inevitable French accent 🙂.
I’ve spent many seasons working abroad, where I used English on a daily basis.
I also speak Spanish fluently, a language I practised extensively during several seasons spent in South America.
Can we book a private rafting trip just for our group?
Yes, absolutely.
Private trips are possible and are a great option if you’d like to experience the river just with your family, friends, or group.
It allows for a more relaxed atmosphere, a flexible pace, and a more personalised experience.
Feel free to contact me with your group size and preferred dates, and I’ll help you organise it.
Can we choose the timing for a private trip?
Yes, in most cases.
One of the advantages of a private trip is the flexibility it offers. Depending on the river conditions and the overall schedule, we can usually adapt the start time to suit your plans — whether you prefer a relaxed morning departure or a later start in the day.
Private trips are designed to be more flexible and tailored, so we always try to find the timing that works best for you while ensuring safe conditions on the river.
Feel free to contact me with your preferred dates and schedule, and we’ll see what’s possible.
I’ve never been rafting before — is that a problem?
Not at all… On some of the biggest rafting rivers in the world, most people in the boat have no experience at all.
In fact, the best crew members are often the ones who stay relaxed, listen carefully, and work together — not the ones who talk the most 🙂
In spring, if you want to join a more sporty trip, it’s important to be in good physical condition and comfortable swimming.
In summer, however, rafting on the Ubaye is accessible to almost everyone.
I’d like to book a trip — how does it work?
Nothing could be easier 🙂
Just give me a call. If I’m on the river, feel free to send me a WhatsApp message — that’s usually the quickest way to get a reply.
Depending on the time of the season, a deposit may be required to confirm the booking.
How can I pay for the activity?
I don’t have a card payment terminal on site.
Payment can therefore be made by cash or bank transfer.
Do you offer combined experiences such as rafting with bivouac or fishing?
Yes, absolutely.
I offer several combined experiences that allow you to discover the river in different ways — whether it’s rafting with an overnight bivouac in our riverside eco-camp, a tipi adventure weekend, or multi-day trips that mix rafting, nature immersion, and time by the water.
For guests interested in fishing, I can also organise tailor-made days or stays combining rafting with fly fishing, either on the Ubaye itself or on its beautiful tributaries and mountain spots.
These experiences are usually organised privately so that we can adapt the pace, the programme, and the atmosphere to your expectations.
If you have a specific idea in mind, just get in touch — I’ll be happy to help you design something special.
The forecast announces rain or storms — will the trip still take place?
Rafting — especially on the Ubaye, thanks to the shape of the valley — is one of the few outdoor activities that can usually be practised even in bad weather.
In fact, it sometimes happens that visitors book precisely because the forecast isn’t great… and I can tell you they often come back delighted.
Personally, I think it gives the river an even wilder atmosphere:
the colour of the water changes, the river grows, mist appears, thunder rolls…
you feel small, with the impression of being at the other end of the world.
So forget what you may have heard — trust the professionals who work on the river every day 🙂
Do you accept groups, and what is the maximum size?
Yes, I do accept groups, for up to 12 people.
In that case, I work with a fellow independent guide on the Ubaye 🙂
I’ve checked your prices — is the equipment included, and do we need to use our own vehicle for the shuttle?
Everything is included: personal equipment, technical gear for the activity, your guide, and the shuttle transport for the trip.
All we ask in return… is your smile 🙂
How long does a rafting trip on the Ubaye last?
Time on the river mainly depends on the water level.
In spring, a standard descent usually lasts around 1 hour 15 minutes on the water, while in summer you can expect closer to 2 hours.
Of course, it also depends on the group and what you feel like doing:
some people prefer to stay dry, while others enjoy swimming, jumping in, and making the most of the river.
I often say my trips are tailor-made, and I always try to adapt to your wishes as much as possible. After all, a happy crew makes for a happy guide 🙂
Finally, Raft’Ubaye is one of the few companies to run only two trips per day in high season (four is more common in the valley), which allows us to take our time on the river.
So how long does the whole activity last in total?
In addition to the time spent on the river, you should allow for equipment fitting, the natural pace of the group, the safety briefing, and the return shuttle.
All in all, you should plan for half a day for a standard rafting trip.
I still have questions — can I call you?
Of course! You can reach me on +33 6 61 22 42 78, and I’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
